About the role

We have a fantastic opportunity to join our Haydock Distribution Centre in our Transport Department as a Transport Clerk. Our Regional Distribution centres supply our 198 cash and carry sites with all their products including Fresh, Frozen and Ambient stock. 

The successful applicants will be required to work 40 hours per week, working any five from seven days on a double days shift pattern- 6am-2pm,2pm-10pm, so there will be Saturday or Sunday working dependent on rotas. Sunday hours are paid at a premium rate.  

Please note that all candidates will have to undertake a drug and alcohol test as part of the pre-employment tests.

You will be responsible for

  • Holiday cover for other Colleagues within the Transport Team
  • Assisting in making decisions regarding drivers, loads and deliveries
  • Assist dealing with drivers, branches, customers, breakdowns and the VMU – including any issues that arise as a result of these
  • Assist collecting information required and logging it and informing the relevant people
  • Collate, check daily route/delivery point paperwork and assist with any anomalies.
  • Collate, check and provide reports on Vehicle utilisation, drivers hours and other Transport related KPI’s
  • All other legal, health and safety and employee requirements relating to the role
  • Dispatch and de-brief driver's ensuring all required information and paperwork is communicated and issued

You will need

Technical Skills/Knowledge/Experience (Advantageous, but not essential):

  • Knowledge of driver hours, tachograph’s and Working Time Regulations
  • Knowledge of road transport legislation 
  • Admin/clerical experience
  • Good PC skills and organisational skills
  • Advanced Exel Skills
  • Effective communication (both written and verbal) with all parties required
